To see the smile on a child’s face and experience their excitement when they catch a fish is priceless.  Each spring there are many local fishing derbies in the PA Great Outdoors region.  These events are a great way to introduce kids to fishing, have some family fun, and make lasting memories.  With a little luck they could even win some really cool prizes too. So go pick some worms, grab your fishing rods, and load the gang in the car and have some fun.  Here are some of the upcoming fishing derbies in the region:

  • Clear Creek Fishing Derby (Clear Creek State Park)             May 7
  • Cad Emery Fish for Fun (Walter Dick Memorial Park-Brookville)   May 14
  • St. Leo’s Trout Derby & Geocaching ‘Fish’ Run (Ridgway)    May 21-22
  • Family Day (Bennetts Valley Senior Center-Weedville) May 29
  • Children’s Fishing Rodeo (Cook Forest State Park)             June 5

There are also two statewide Fish-for-Free Days were adults are not required to have a fishing licenses on May 29th and July 4th.  Find more information on fishing in the PA Great Outdoors at VisitPAGO.com or call (814) 849-5197.
