If you’re lucky enough to catch one the many tagged trout in Elk County this spring, you could win a prize from an area merchant or even free beer. This year’s Elk County Trout-A-Thon starts on the opening day of trout season, April 14, and runs through May 31. Tagged fished are being stocked in nine Elk County waterways: Big Mill Creek, Ridgway Reservoir, Elk Creek, Laurel Run Reservoir, Little Toby Creek, Crooked Creek, Powers Run, and the East and West Branches of the Clarion River. The contest is open to all ages and there is no entry fee. Tags can be redeemed at the Ridgway-Elk County Chamber of Commerce in downtown Ridgway.
Straub Brewery is offering anglers 21 or older the chance to win a free case of beer. Straub tags are orange, numbered 201-300, and will be placed on trout stocked in 14 local waterways: Laurel Run Reservoir, Elk Creek, Hicks Run, West Creek, Crooked Creek, Twin Lakes, Rocky Run, Powers Run, Kersey/Byrnes Run, Toby Creek, Medix Run, Bennett Branch of Sinnemahoning Creek, and the East and West Branches of the Clarion River. All tags must be turned in at Straub Brewery’s Beer Store in St. Marys.
