The roar of engines and the thrill of speed are set to return on Friday nights in 2016 at Thunder Mountain Speedway. The popular local dirt track is quickly becoming known as one of the fastest short tracks in the region as they enter the second season under Bo Lockwood Motorsports. A lot of new clay was added to the entire racing surface, during the off season, which should make an already fast track even faster and a new Semi-late class has been added as well.
This year’s schedule should provide some thrilling action with 410 sprints, 358 modifieds, and serval other specials slated. The weekly program will offer four divisions of racing with heat races and features for Late Models, Warrior Sprints, Street Stocks, & Semi-late models. The 2016 season will take the green flag on May 13th with the PA Great Outdoors Visitors Bureau’s Opening Night. May 20th is first of the season for the touring Penn/Ohio Street Stock Challenge Series paying $2,500 to the winner. This is a much anticipated event as local drivers will battle some of the best in the division in the eastern U.S. Last season the track regulars dominated the race. The 358 Modifieds will make their first ever appearance at the track on June 17th and return for a second visit on August 19th. July 1st the ULMS Late Model Series will battle for $3,000 to win and the crowd will be treated to spectacular fireworks display. The most anticipated race of the year is on July 22nd with the 410 sprints special. Fans know the track record will be broken at least several times when the “Big Winged Warriors” come to town. All fans, but especially kids, will love fan appreciation night on July 29th. The drivers park their cars on the front stretch and the crowd is permitted on the track. There is really nothing else like it in racing. The drivers sign autographs and pose for pictures while their families and crews hand out treats and trinkets for the kids. The season ends on a bang with a huge two-day show October 7th-8th known as the Last Chance Showdown featuring 6 divisions of racing plus a 50 lap Enduro.
