Welcome to my new feature called Bx Band Beat. If you love to listen to live music, play an instrument or sing, tune in with me at the beginning of each month for the nitty gritty of live music in the PA Great Outdoors region. Here’s what’s hot for January.
The Loose Nuts Band will be playing on January 8th at The Foundry in Reynoldsville starting at 7 p.m. They will play all of your requested rock, country and polka favorites plus they take requests! Call (814) 653-2522 for more information.
Bryan Phillips will be playing all your favorite & country hits at Deer Creek Winery’s Friday Night Music Lounge on January 8th & 22nd from 6-8 p.m. and January 30th from 5-8 p.m.
Against the Grain is a western PA rock band playing everything from classic rock to alternative to today’s hits including interesting versions of fan-favorite songs that span hard rock classics from AC/DC and Led Zeppelin to Grunge-Alternative bands such as the Foo Fighters and Reliant K. They will be playing at Ray’s Hot Spot on January 8th starting at 9:30 p.m.
Samantha Sears will be playing Eclectic Acoustic Rock at Deer Creek Winery on January 9th from 1-4 p.m.
Mis B’ Havin is fast becoming Northwestern PA’s premier classic rock band playing a wide variety of hits from the last 40 years. They love it all from Deep Purple- Aretha Franklin, Hendrix – Motown, you name it. Their Led Zeppelin is over the top. If it dances, moves and has soul you are likely to hear it. They will play at Ray’s Hot Spot on January 9th starting at 9:30 p.m.
The Sawyer Stepp Trio is a quality, easy listening, full sounding trio band that performs a nice variety of songs from the 70’s, 60’s, 50’s, 40’s, 30’s and even back to the roaring 20’s! They will play at Deer Creek Winery’s Friday Night Music Lounge on January 15th & 29th from 6-8 p.m.
The Necessary Experience is a fun, funky rock and roll band playing top hits from The Beatles, Steve Miller, Marvin Gaye, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and Motown. In essence they’re Funky People Playin’ Funky Tunes!!! They will play at Ray’s Hot Spot on January 15th starting at 9:30 p.m.
Robyn Young performs acoustic country, pop, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s rock and country. She is also a songwriter so you will hear some of her original work as well. She’s playing at Deer Creek Winery on January 16th and at Iron Mountain Grille on January 23rd.
Sofa King Cool Band plays classic rock so well you can almost feel your hair growing! Awesome and absolutely amazing. Classic rock, blues rock, southern rock, dance rock, if it’s rock then they play it, and they’re playing it at Ray’s Hot Spot on January 16th starting at 9:30 p.m.
The band Chaz has been playing classic and dance rock favorites for decades. They are always a great time. See them live at Ray’s Hot Spot on January 22nd starting at 9:30 p.m.
Bryan Schwab & Jim Kelley play all your favorite acoustic blues, psychedelic and rock fusion tunes. They will play at Deer Creek Winery on January 23rd from 1-4 p.m.
Condition Critical plays 80’s-90’s classic rock with some modern rock thrown in too. They will play at Ray’s Hot Spot on January 23rd starting at 9:30 p.m.
The Winter Blues & Brews Festival happens January 30th in Ridgway. Dusty Trout opens the festival with their unique sound that compliments traditional bluegrass music with a touch of early country/rock and then Mick Hayes performs rock, blues and soul music with a great groove plus beer from Straub and Crescent, food and bonfires abounding. Trixx band plays all of your favorite classic rock hits from the 70’s and 80’s including Journey, Styx, Bryan Adams and so much more. These guys have been together for a long time and it shows. They are playing at Ray’s Hot Spot on January 30th starting at 9:30 p.m.
The region also has some terrific monthly meet ups to show your talent as well.
The Forest County Country Music Association has a bluegrass and country music jam session to set your toes a tappin’ and your fingers snappin’. You are even welcome to join in if you like. It happens the 2nd Friday each month at the MACA building on Pine Street in Marienville and the 3rd Friday each month at the Forest Folk School in Tionesta.
If you love American Folk Music; singing, playing guitar, banjo, ukulele, dulcimer or mandolin meet at CREATE Café on the first Thursday of each month where you’ll play the music of Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, Arlo Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Peter Paul & Mary, The Kingston Trio and many, many more of your favorite classic folk tunes from the 1930’s through the 1970’s. On the third Thursday of each month bring a stringed instrument and join in the Fiddler’s Jam at CREATE Café or just sit a spell and watch. Call (814) 271-7726 for more information.
