The Allegheny River – 2017 River of the Year – has been providing residents and visitors alike with recreation for years upon years. Fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and tubing are all activities that regularly take place on the Allegheny River.
The men and women of the Forest Area Arts Council are hoping to spread awareness of the Allegheny River in terms of artistic pursuits as well. Take one look at this majestic waterway and its surrounding forest landscape and it’s easy to imagine the amount of inspiration it has conjured up over the years. Painters, photographers, and outdoor writers all look towards the “Awesome Allegheny” when searching for a muse.
Art on the Allegheny will take place on Saturday, September 23rd from 10am – 4pm in Tionesta as part of the River of the Year celebration. Admission is free and the event will include artist demonstrations and lessons, artwork for sale, vendors, educational displays, and live music. The Forest County History Center will also have information to educate the public on the value that the Allegheny River provides in terms of recreation, inspiration, and conservation.
