Northwest Pennsylvania's Great Outdoors Natural Areas

  • Nearly 10 miles of trails provide wildlife viewing at Buzzard Swamp. As an important link in the Atlantic flyway, two-dozen species of waterfowl live here during migration.

  • Cook Forest State Park's Longfellow Trail leads to the largest white pine forest in North America. A true ancient forest, the habitat is ideal for deep forest bird species.

  • The Marion Brooks Natural Area boasts a 917-acre high mountain bog. An enormous stand of white birch along with mixed oak and laurel are spectacular early summer and autumn.

  • Pine Tree Trail leads to a 276-acre stand of white pine seeded on an abandoned farm prior to cutting of the surrounding virgin forest.
