Snowshoeing is easy to learn and doesn’t cost much compared to other winter sports. What’s more, the design of snowshoes has come along way in the past decade. The introduction of light metal frame shoes has made them easy and enjoyable to wear for people new to the sport. And it’s a great way to go wildlife watching in the winter. Who knows, one of those elusive elk might even cross your path.
Any of the area state parks are good places to go. They have many miles of hiking trails that are seldom visited in the winter. Snowshoeing through the old growth forest in Cook Forest is particularly nice.
There are miles of trails throughout our 5 county area, for more information call the Great Outdoors Visitor’s Bureau at 814-849-5197 or visit www.VisitPaGo.com.
