Elk Watching Is Great...Even In The Winter

Some folks have the misconception you can only see Pennsylvania’s majestic elk at certain times of the year. But winter makes a great time for watching and taking some beautiful photos in Elk Country. When you have a snowy background the animals really stand out. You also can see the tracks they leave behind.

The elks’ winter pelts are just as beautiful in the winter as they are in the summer. The pelts of the older bulls actually fade a bit, which makes an interesting contrast from the younger males.

If there is a lot of snow in the area, the elk are sometimes pushed to a lower elevation in search of food and can be easily spotted along the roadways. When you take your photo, be sure to use the snow as the background so the elk really stand out.
