Cook Forest

One of the finest stands of virgin timber in the eastern United States is located here in Cook Forest State Park. The extraordinary quality of this ancient forest assured selection as one of the top-50 state parks across the nation by National Geographic Traveler magazine.

Cooksburg was founded in the early 1830s by John Cook who initiated a great lumber dynasty. The old Cook sawmill now houses the Sawmill Center for the Arts which provides craft markets, festivals and live theatre-in-the-round as well as instruction of traditional arts and crafts by nationally acclaimed artisans.
