Cook Forest State Park

Cook Forest State Park is home to one of the finest stands of virgin timber in the eastern United States.  The extraordinary quality of this ancient forest assured selection as one of the top-50 state parks across the nation by National Geographic Traveler Magazine. Over 11,000 acres of woodlands creates a natural paradise for outdoor enthusiasts.

  • The Forest Cathedral is home to the tallest trees in the northeastern United States and can be found along the Longfellow Trail.  Wintery scenes of the snow-covered forest make the perfect background while exploring.  Rent snowshoes or cross-country skis at Cooksburg Dry Goods.
  • Ice skating is a fun winter pastime! Head to Cook Forest State Park where the scenery is breathtaking and the activities are endless!  The ice skating pond can be found on River Road (approximately one mile from Route 36).  Stop at Cooksburg Dry Goods for skate rental.
  • Grab some sleds and make some memories!  The sledding hill in Cook Forest State Park is perfect!  Located just behind the ice skating pond.
  • Visit with Park Naturalists for free environmental interpretive programs held year round throughout the park. Visit our events calendar and select the category "State Parks: Events & Programs"
  • Hunting wild turkey, black bear, white-tailed deer, and small game is permitted in designated areas of the park along with the nearby State Game Lands.
