Head for Open Water
Whether you have a kayak or a cabin cruiser, the big lakes in Pennsylvania’s Great Outdoors are open to watercraft of all kind. Curwensville, Tionesta and East Branch lake each offers unlimited horsepower boating and lots of opportunities for fun.

Curwensville Lake is just 15 minutes from Exit 120 off I-80 on Route 453 south of Curwensville. The lake is one of the hottest fisheries in north central Pennsylvania, producing trophy size smallmouth bass,Lake according to Jim Comer at curwensvillelakefishing.com. "Big musky are also common with big catches of thirty pounds and more. Largemouth bass in the seven pound class are common and big crappie,


 perch, catfish, bluegill are often taken."

There is lots to do on land, too. The area around the lake has secluded camp sites with spectacular lake views, plus many recreational amenities including pavilions, grills, playgrounds, volleyball courts and beaches with lifeguards. For more information call (814) 236- 2320.

The 6-mile Tionesta Lake also offers a mix of beautiful scenery and recreation. The placid lake and glistening Allegheny River yield many fine catches of trout, muskie, walleye, bass and panfish. Small fishing boats can ply the inlets, coves and backwater areas of the lake. But the lake is big enough even water-skiers can have fun. Easy access to the water is provided by boat launches at either end of the lake with ample


 trailer parking available.

The forested hillsides surrounding the lake are home to a remarkable variety of wildlife. There are many self-guided nature trails, picnic areas and scenic overlooks. Camping facilities range from rustic in nature, located at lakeside and accessible only by boat, to sites equipped with hot showers and other modern conveniences.

The 5.7-mile East Branch Lake is nestled in the rugged mountains of Elk State Park in north central Pennsylvania. The lake is a cold water fishery stocked by the PA Fish and Boat Commission with muskie, walleye, smallmouth bass,


plus brook, rainbow, brown, and lake trout. The lake is also great for water skiing. Boat launches are located at both ends of the lake.

A lovely picnic are is located at the East Branch Dam providing a panoramic view of the lake. Camping in Elk State Park and hiking along the Shady Ridge Nature Trail are also available.
